Trying to shed some extra pounds or trying to lose the weight in the middle section? Well a perfect way to lose the unwanted pounds is by speed ladder drills. By utilizing this type of program to get a flat and strong mid section, an athlete will also strengthen their core muscles. So when the fat disappears the muscles that were hidden below the fat layer are now strong and tight.

Some other benefits to using a speed ladder training program to lose weight are the gains in speed the athlete will achieve. With the extra speed the athlete will be more competitive in whatever sport they play. Their agility will also improve making the athlete even more explosive of a player in their chosen sport. The drills that are performed for speed and for agility increases are very fluid and quick. The rate of burning fat is very high if the athlete follows a good program and keeps their heart rate at a high level.

A good speed ladder program will always include core strengthening drills and exercises. If the athlete would really like to focus on their core they can try adding a core training program like get-flat-tummy.com to their speed ladder program. Together they will be very effective in losing extra abdominal fat cells. With this extra core training program added to a complete speed ladder training program, the athlete is guaranteed to flatten the mid section and have a six pack of abdominal muscles.

Another benefit for using a speed ladder program to lose the belly is that the muscles the athlete will develop will be the harder, tighter looking fast twitch muscles. If the athlete decides to take up a jogging program to lose weight they will develop slow twitch muscles. Nothing is wrong with slow twitch muscles and nothing is wrong with jogging to lose weight, it will work. But those muscles do not have much definition. If an athlete is going to lose weight then wouldn’t they prefer to have hard and tight looking muscles after all that hard work? Most athletes would.

The speed ladder is probably the most important piece of equipment in a quickness training program. There are many reasons for the importance of the speed ladder, and one is the amount of drills that can be performed with the ladder. There are well over 20 variations drills that an athlete can perform to help their speed and agility. This is probably double the amount of drills that can be performed with any other piece of equipment used for speed and agility training. The most important thing is that an athlete knows what these drills are. Most programs that include the speed ladder only utilize about 5 drills. So if you are planning on spending the money for a one then make sure you purchase a complete guide to all the things it can be used for.

Besides all the variations of drills the speed ladder is import because of the type of drills that can be performed. All the drills are design to help develop fast twitch muscles. This is the type of muscle fiber that an athlete needs to become fast and agile, and quick and explosive. All drills with a speed ladder are meant to have quick movements which help build fast twitch muscles. The drills cannot really be performed at anything less than 100% effort for speed and quickness.

When you add all the uses a speed ladder has it is truly the most important piece of equipment that can be purchased to help an athlete’s speed and agility. The speed ladder also is not that expensive. One can run from $39.99 and up. This will come with a couple of suggested drills, but to get the maximum benefits an athlete should purchase a true speed ladder program or a complete speed and agility program that includes many speed ladder drills.

A Speed ladder can be one of the most useful tools when participating in a speed and agility training program. They can have many uses when training to have more quickness for various sports. The cost is generally low and a great place to get them is at Eastbay Sports. Most places will sell you the ladder but and a couple of drills but not a complete program. The seller will say it is a complete training program, but in truth it is not.

Speed ladders or sometimes known as agility ladders, mostly develop quickness or speed in small areas, first 10 yards to be exact. Many different drills can be performed with speed Ladders. These are one of the most effective tools for simultaneously improving foot speed agility, coordination, and balance. These are a great tool to be used by athletes in any sport to work on change of direction and quickness. No speed and agility training program is complete without a speed ladder.

With the athlete’s improvement in his first step speed and quickness and the first 10 yard speed, will come success. This extra speed and step is key in all sports and sometimes left out of many track programs. Some of the drills that can be performed are quick step, quick step side left or right and staggered step. A word of caution, do not just do these drills or just the drills that come with the ladder, your gains will be minimal. Always use one with a complete speed and agility training program.

The speed ladder is one very important component of 5 key ingredients to a complete guide to speed and agility training. There are 5 key ingredients, technique, drills, nutrition and diet, weight training, and all muscle groups. Why I mention all muscle groups is that many times the hips and core are neglected or left out period. With all the key ingredients an athlete is guaranteed to make maximum gains. The speed ladder is used in the drills ingredient of the complete program.

Building fast twitch muscle fibers has been proven over and over to be the key for speed and agility. The more fast twitch muscles the athlete has, the faster and quicker the athlete is. The old school of thinking is that these muscles cannot be developed or increased, this is false. There are keys to developing fast twitch muscles and those can be developed in speed and agility training programs. But the athlete must use the right programs to develop them.

The key to developing fast twitch fibers is everything must be done fast and quick. Phil Campbell a well known speed coach says, “It’s simple; muscles adapt. And long, slow running trains the body to run slow”. “One more time, slow running teaches your body to be slow!” Training methods such as over speed training using perfect technique to re-program the brain, nervous system, and the body to move faster than ever before is one way to increase fast twitch muscles. Athletes using the right programs will learn perfect technique and how to train for speed, strength and flexibility.

Another way to develop these is resistance training. Resistance training has been proven to increase speed and agility if done right. Resistance training consist of the athlete going through a variety of training drills and sprints but with some form of resistance such as, weighted vests and shorts, parachutes, bungee cords, and even ropes with someone holding the athlete back. But the key to all the drills with the resistance is the drills must be done as fast as possible. Every exercise and movement must be done at full speed. This way your body will get used to the resistance and then when the resistance is removed, your legs will run faster than before. It is common sense right? Not so fast. If these drills were done at slow speed your body gets used to moving at the speed, and your body will develop slow twitch muscles.

Even weight lifting can make you faster or slower. The way you lift will determine if your body develops slow twitch muscles or fast twitch muscles. Phil Campbell also describes weightlifting by saying, “When athletes go to the gym, for example, they usually focus on the traditional exercises that they’ve read about in magazines, and know how to do. These include traditional bench presses and squats. These exercises are great for developing general strength, but they won’t help develop speed unless explosive-lifting techniques are applied to strength training. (If your school has a strength coach that uses explosive-lifts in sports training, consider yourself very fortunate). Muscles adapt, and lifting at the traditional tempo of up-on-two, down-on-four, will build strong slow-twitch fiber, but it takes strong fast-twitch muscle fiber to score touchdowns and win gold”. So proper lifting techniques can increase or decrease your fast twitch muscle fibers.

In today’s sports the faster and more agile players on the field or court have a distinct advantage over the other players. This is why trainers charge hundreds and thousands of dollars for training camps and sell millions of expensive DVD’s. Speed and Agility training does not have to be expensive. It takes some knowledge and self discipline.

If you have the discipline to go through what a complete training guide can give you, you can be successful. Then you can save yourself or your parent’s lots of money. Can you stick to a well researched speed and agility program? One that is complete in all areas? If you do, you will get faster and more agile.

The faster and more agile the player, the more opportunities will be given to them at different positions. The main reason for that is the coach knows he has to have the speed on the field or court. Typically most high school football teams have a couple of players that can run 4.4, usually less than 10% of the players on their team. If you are one of those players, the football coach will give you a chance at all the skill positions that require speed. He knows you will be able to run by defenders as a running back, past defenders as a wide receiver or as a defender you will be able to cover the fast receivers, and get to where the ball is going faster than 90% of your teammates. If you play basketball, the coach will find a way to work you into the line up because you will get to more loose balls, and deflect more passes on defense, because you can get to your defensive position faster than the other players. As a soccer player you will be able to run past defenders and get to the ball sooner than the other players.

Speed and Agility can be developed and it can be enhanced simply with the right training program. The right training requires a complete program with 5 key ingredients. Technique, proper drills, nutrition and diet, proper weight training, and included all muscle groups, hips and core.
